As the anticipation builds for the upcoming three-match T20I series between India and Afghanistan, all eyes are on the crucial decision of who will accompany skipper Rohit Sharma at the top of the batting order. With the likes of Shubman Gill and Yashavi Jaiwal emerging as strong contenders for the opening slot, the speculation surrounding this selection is reaching a fever pitch. Amidst the buzz, former cricketer Kiran More has weighed in, putting forth his choice for the coveted position.

Kiran More’s choice for Rohit Sharma’s opening partner

More expressed his preference for Yashasvi over Gill, emphasizing the value of a left-right batting combination. He commended Jaiswal’s exceptional performances, highlighting his aggressive approach and intent to score boundaries from the outset. The Indian veteran acknowledged Gill as a good player; he leaned towards the strategic advantage offered by the left-right combination in T20 cricket, ultimately favouring Yashasvi.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal for me because it’s a left-right combination. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performances have been exceptional. He shows aggression and talks about fours and sixes from the first ball. I think Shubman Gill is definitely a good player but I will go with a left and right-handed batting combination in the T20 format. I will go with Yashasvi for sure,” More said during a discussion on Sports 18.

More identified Rinku Singh and Tilak Varma as players to watch out for in the upcoming series, highlighting Tilak’s versatility as a 360-degree player. He notes that both batters exhibit a similar batting style. More underscored the importance of considering the future and suggested including Tilak and Rinku in the team.

“Rinku and Tilak both because Tilak Varma is a good player. He is a 360-degree player and Tilak Varma bats the same way that Rinku does. I believe we need to think a little about the future and take both Tilak and Rinku along,” the 61-year-old added.
