David Warner‘s cricketing journey has been a tale of brilliance overshadowed by a dark episode. While his illustrious career has left an indelible mark in the cricketing realm, the sandpaper scandal of 2018 remains a sad chapter. The then vice-captain of the Australian side, convicted as the main orchestrator of the entire scandal, faced the severe consequence of a lifetime leadership ban.
Having bid farewell to red-ball cricket, Warner reflected on the ban imposed by the cricketing authorities of his nation. This incident serves as a stark reminder of how even the most accomplished players can find themselves entangled in controversy, impacting not only their careers but also the broader narrative of the sport.

“What’s the difference between captaining and coaching? You’ve got more responsibility as a coach, wouldn’t you think so? I don’t know, I’m not sure, I don’t know how to answer. It’s been five years, and I still don’t know how to answer the question. It’s just something that’s hard to get my head around. Apparently, I will be able to coach if allowed to in Australia. But I can’t captain. So yeah, I’m not sure what it is. It’s under contract with Australia. It’s a leadership position, so I’m not sure; I just don’t know. It’s very bizarre,” Warner was quoted as saying to Code Sports.
Warner’s upcoming campaign
Mentioning about Warner’s upcoming campaign, the explosive opener will feature in IPL 2024, as he is a pivotal part of Delhi Capitals and led the side in IPL 2023 in the absence of their regular captain, Rishabh Pant. Warner is currently playing in the ongoing season of ILT20, where he is leading the Dubai Capitals.
