The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has officially declared their playing XI for the first Test match against India, kicking off a five-match series that promises intense cricketing action. The much-anticipated series opener is scheduled to commence on January 25 at the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
No place for the veteran pacer
In a surprising move, the England team management has opted for a spin-dominated playing XI, leaving out the experienced swing bowler, James Anderson. Despite being England’s leading wicket-taker against India, Anderson finds himself on the sidelines for the first Test. The sole specialist pacer in the squad is Mark Wood, who gets the nod ahead of the seasoned campaigner.
Debut for Tom Hartley
The Three Lions have introduced a fresh face in their lineup, as Tom Hartley is set to make his debut in international Test cricket. The left-arm spinner has earned his place after an impressive performance in first-class cricket, having featured in 20 matches and scalping 40 wickets. Hartley will join the spin duo of Rehan Ahmed and Jack Leach to form a formidable spin department for England in the Hyderabad Test.
