Sunil Gavaskar picks a wrist spinner over Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal for T20 World Cup 2024

Sunil Gavaskar has shared his preferred leg-spinner choice in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. As the tournament, scheduled for June in the United States of America (USA) and the West Indies, approaches, attention is heightened on crucial decisions, particularly the choice of a  wrist spinner.

While the team boasts experienced spinners like Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, Gavaskar has proposed a different name as the preferred leg-spinner for the T20 mega event.

T20 World Cup 2024: Sunil Gavaskar’s leg-spinner pick

In a recent interaction on the Star Sports show ‘Game Plan,’ Gavaskar highlighted Ravi Bishnoi‘s superior fielding skills as a key factor in his favor. Additionally, he acknowledged Bishnoi’s ability with the bat, citing a notable performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 where he guided his team, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), to victory alongside Avesh Khan over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

“Ravi Bishnoi for me because apart from bowling, he is a very good fielder. He is a better fielder than Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal,” Gavaskar said.

“He can bat as well, the way he applied his brains and won his side the match with his calmness in the last IPL. I feel he and Avesh Khan had won their side the match against RCB. So Ravi Bishnoi for me,” the 75-year-old concluded.

T20I record and selection status

Bishnoi boasted an impressive T20I record, having secured 34 wickets at an economical rate of 7.14 in 21 matches. Despite being the Player of the Series in the T20Is against Australia, he missed out on playing in the recent South African tour. However, Bishnoi and also Kuldeep have earned spots in the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, while Chahal, currently inactive, will be closely observed during the IPL 2024.
